E-Scooter trial extended – Campaign for Better Transport responds

6 July 2022

Responding to the announcement that all English local authorities have the option of continuing pilot schemes for rental e-scooters until the end of May 2024, Norman Baker from Campaign for Better Transport said:

“E-scooters are a great way to get around, but they must be used legally and safely. The legislation to legalise private e-scooters needs to be expedited so they can be regulated just like hire ones. The Department for Transport must also publish the data and conclusions from the hire trials so far to identify gaps in evidence to address for the remainder of the trials to better inform scrutiny of the legislation.”
