Flexible season tickets: comment from Campaign for Better Transport
20 May 2021
Reacting to the announcement of flexible season tickets in the Williams-Shapps Plan for Rail, Paul Tuohy, Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport, said:
“At last, part-time commuters will be able to buy flexible season tickets. We have called for this for years, but the need is now urgent to cater for the growing number of people planning to return to workplaces part-time – otherwise many will get in their cars instead, adding to traffic jams, air pollution and carbon emissions. It’s great news that this will be a national scheme, and that travellers will be able to pay via a smartcard or phone. But the devil will be in the detail, and we will be watching closely as more information emerges about the tickets – it’s important that they offer a decent discount to help steer us towards a green transport future”.
